Dear Visitors,
The renovation work at our fortified church is progressing! Unfortunately, when working on a historic building, not everything can be planned precisely according to schedule: archaeological discoveries, weather conditions and the unpredictable state of the building can all lead to delays.
We would therefore like to keep you regularly informed about the progress of the renovation work and any temporary restrictions.
Status as of mid-September 2026:
The main tower remains closed to visitors for the time being. The roof work is well underway, and we hope to complete it before winter. The upper roof is being fitted with a new covering of swallowtail tiles and has already been equipped with a new lightning protection system.
As of September 14, the church is now closed to visitors. Once the fresco restoration has been completed, the next stages will be the renovation of the flooring, the rehabilitation of the galleries, and the restoration of the old pews in the central nave of the church. It is not yet possible to determine exactly when these works will be completed; they are currently expected to be finished in 2027.
Until then, our local heritage museum will remain open as usual. The popular terracotta exhibition will also remain open to visitors. For those who would like to enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding area, the top floor of the South Bastion is open, and the Bacon Tower can also be visited. Our shop will also continue to offer a selection of souvenirs, and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you and answer any questions.
To compensate our visitors for the inconvenience, a reduced admission fee will apply once the church closure takes effect.

We kindly ask you, to park your vehicle in the public parking lot at the edge of the village. Parking is free of charge. Please note that most parts of the village is residents’ parking only. The village is much nicer without cars and we would love to grant you an undisturbed view of our pitoresque houses and sights. Thanky you!

Trash cans:
The council has installed eco-friendly trash cans throughout the village—the woven baskets you see along the streets. We kindly ask you to use these for your waste during your visit.
